Alisson rates his opposite number Mike Maignan with honest verdict

Alisson piled praise on AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan as they prepare to face off in the Champions League.

Liverpool travels to the San Siro on Tuesday to face seven-times European Cup winners Milan, aiming to bounce back from Saturday's surprise defeat by Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.

Alisson was put on press conference duty by Liverpool on Monday ahead of the game against Milan and he was asked by an Italian journalist about the quality of France international Maignan.

"He is a great goalkeeper," Alisson said. "He has done incredibly well for three, four, five years. Since he came to Milan he has always played wonderfully, and with the French national team he has replaced a great goalkeeper (Hugo Lloris) who has been world champion.

"He is a very physical player, is quick and technical, he is a very clean player. He is a very good goalkeeper, in the best 10 worldwide. There are so many good goalkeepers and he is one of the best."

Alisson added that the match against Milan provides Liverpool with the perfect opportunity to bounce back from Saturday's disappointing defeat.

"Tomorrow is a big chance for us to prove again and to go back to the good start that we had in the season," Alisson said. "Unfortunately the last match, we were far, far away from what we could do on the pitch in respect of the other games, the way we played, and we know that. But football is quick and we have to be really focussed for tomorrow night. it will be a really tough opponent and we have to be ready."
