BBC Homes Under the Hammer star spots 'serious' issue at property that could cause huge problem

A Homes Under The Hammer presenter revealed a significant issue with a property, hinting at a deeper underlying problem.

In the latest instalment of the BBC series, Jacqui visited a two-bedroom mid-terrace house in Great Yarmouth, just a stone's throw from the seaside, with a guide price between £60,000 and £70,000.

Upon arrival, Jacqui seemed optimistic, commenting, "Doesn't look too bad," as she surveyed the property's paved front garden. Inside, she noted the decently sized reception room but quickly spotted a red flag for any would-be buyer, which she highlighted to viewers.

She observed: "What I have seen a lot of is peeling wallpaper. That's a sign of damp. Look at this, all peeling off! There's some serious damp here and cracks in the ceiling there as well. You've got crumbling walls and it's very dated. Strip it out and start again."

Venturing into the kitchen, Jacqui remarked on its dimness. To illustrate her point to the audience, she switched off the light, revealing the lack of natural light due to a window obscured by an improvised porch, reports Wales Online.

Jacqui suggested bringing the walls down between the porch and kitchen for a more spacious and light-filled area, alongside other layout changes to make a cosy abode. "All in all, you really need to think about reconfiguring, opening out this space downstairs, and making it work a little better," she said.

The house clearly required considerable renovation - yet a daring buyer accepted the challenge. Erica, a hairdresser currently enrolled in an interior design course, snagged the property for £70,000.

She explained: "My cousin, she has lettings and she just keeps encouraging me to start my own business. I thought maybe I should try and I went to the auction and my budget was £70,000 and a few minutes later, I'd won."

Despite not viewing the house prior to purchasing at auction, Erica did some research online and planned to do a thorough overhaul by stripping the place back to its brickwork and moving some walls to be open plan.
