Fairground terror moment as five people rescued from rollercoaster stuck upside-down

A group of people had to be rescued when a rollercoaster broke down upside down on a loop-the-loop.

Several people had been enjoying the festivities at the local fair in Ocotlan, in Mexico, when the popular ride suddenly came to a halt at the worst possible time. Footage taken at the Super Loops attraction showed around five people hanging out on the Super Loops ride as they awaited rescue.

Rescue teams from the Ocotlan Fire Department came to the aid of the thrillseekers after it suddenly stopped. A statement from fire crews said: “Staff from the Ocotlan Fire Department attended to a report of mechanical failure in one of the games located inside the Fair Core.

"The ride called Super Loops was suspended at the top and five people were trapped. Rescue manoeuvres were carried out with the support of a fire truck which gave us better access and allowed us to free the occupants. Because of the position in which they were left, it was necessary to move one of them to receive better medical care.

"We appreciate the support from the Ocotlan Police Department who supported us in coordinating the area and making the scene safe. After an investigation by the Risk Management Area and Regulatory Staff, a mechanical failure was found to be at fault."

Last month children and worried passengers were left teetering in the air for hours after a ride malfunction at Skegness Pleasure Beach. Members of the public were urged to avoid the area around the theme park as emergency workers worked get people trapped on the ride down.

Fire crews, police officers and ambulance teams were all at the scene. Around 25 passengers are said to have been stuck in the air for at least two hours before emergency equipment began to evacuate them to the ground. One eyewitness said on social media that more than ten fire engines swarmed the theme park after one ride, reported to be the Super Trooper, stopped working. The ride - which was only recently installed at the park - spins passengers in carriages around a central wheel through the air with their feet dangling below the seats.
