Darts ace Cameron Menzies issued a heartfelt apology after getting blown out of the water by at the World Grand Prix.

The 35-year-old semi-pro, who to support his career, was beaten 2-0 by Chisnall in Leicester on Tuesday, losing all six legs in the match. Afterwards, Menzies took to social media to tell fans he was "heartbroken" by his performance.

Despite a strong showing in 2024, which included a run to the quarter-final of the Players Championship last month, Menzies' confidence was clearly knocked by the whitewash, and he was unable to hide how disappointed he was. In a since-deleted post on X, the Scot wrote: "This is why I work. I am so far off being a pro n today absolutely broke my heart. I am so sorry."

Fans quickly rallied around the World No. 44, urging him to forget about the performance, particularly after such a promising last few months. "Behave, you’ve had a class year. Going full time would be the making of you," one follower replied.

"Don't be silly now, you're having an absolute monster season. Clearly doing something right this year and one rough match in a brutal format doesn't change that," wrote another.

"Chin up Cam," a third said. "Believe in yourself mate. Sure a lot of players have been in your position and still made it. Keep faith."

Both Menzies and partner and fellow darts ace Fallon Sherrock have been in action this week, with the latter competing in the Modus Super Series while the Scot attempted to progress in Leicester. Sherrock, who shot to fame in 2019 after becoming the first woman to win a match at the PDC World Championship, has been living with Menzies since 2022. The pair met while playing in an online darts league, and started dating in 2021.

"She has made my darts better," Menzies told back in 2023. "If I wasn't with Fallon I'd still be a decent darts player, but she has definitely made me a better player. Who is the better of the two of us? I think I’m a tad better, but she’s better on stage when you're in the spotlight. She just handles that better... she has bigger balls than me.

"I’m getting better at it, but when it comes down to the marbles in an important match Fallon performs better. Hopefully one day I can keep up with her level in that area."

"I don't want to be rude to him because I think he's phenomenal. But I wasn't too bothered," Cross told reporters. "If anything, I'd rather it had been a straight format [rather than a double in start] because at least I could offer a little bit more.

"All about me, really. I didn't know which version of me was going to turn up. Based on the last few years it might not have been a good version. I enjoyed it a little bit more towards the end and hit my checkouts. Hopefully that stays for the rest of the week."

Elsewhere, unfancied Daryl Gurney got the best of Van Gerwen, while Smith was beaten by Gary Anderson. World No. 1 and reigning champion suffered an early scare, but came from behind to beat Stephen Bunting and book his place in the second round, where he'll face Ricardo Pietreczko.
