Kelsey Parker said she was incredibly candid with her young kids following the tragic death of their dad, The Wanted's Tom Parker.

In an emotional 2022 interview, she revealed how she faced the heartbreaking task of telling them about their father's passing. The pop star lost his valiant fight against cancer at the age of 33 after being diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour in October 2020.

Speaking about the painful experience with her two little ones, Aurelia and Bodhi, Kelsey explained: "Aurelia had been getting really confused when Tom went into the hospice. On the Wednesday when I knew I was going in to see Tom I said to her: 'I want to make sure that Daddy is OK and the angels come and take him.'"

Emphasising the importance of honesty, she added: "We've just been really really honest with the children because you have to be." Kelsey also shared with The Sun on Sunday the difficult moment she informed her daughter of Tom's passing, saying: "But having to tell her that her daddy had died, that was really tough."

Describing the overwhelming emotions, she recalled: "I couldn't talk, it was like I had something stuck in my throat, I couldn't say it but I knew I had to say those words to her because she had to know. She just said, 'OK Mummy', but I needed to be straight with her."

Moreover, Kelsey disclosed that she and Tom never broached the subject of funeral preparations amidst his struggle with cancer. "He was doing so well. We were the 'Positive Parkers' and never spoke about it," she said. Surrounded by Tom's The Wanted bandmates, close family and friends, Kelsey bravely said her final goodbyes to her husband. As Tom made his final journey to Saint Francis of Assisi Parish Church in Petts Wood, a line of mourning fans gathered to show their love and respect.

Now aged 33, Kelsey reflected: "He would have loved the funeral. I don't think he ever realised how many hearts he actually touched. I try to tell myself how lucky I am. How lucky I was to find Tom, the love of my life, my soulmate and best friend." She continued: "What me and Tom had some people don't ever find that in their lifetimes. It's so hard but I've got to concentrate on all the positives. And I will continue to look for his special signs every day because I know he'll be with me watching over us all."

The support hasn't waned for Kelsey, particularly from The Wanted's Jay McGuiness. Upon Kelsey revealing she'd found new love in an Instagram post, Jay was among the first to comfort her with the words: "Love is always the answer" complete with a love heart emoji. This gesture delighted fans, with one commenting below: "So lovely that you're showing support for her as always."

Celebs have been sending congrats Kelsey's way on her latest romance, with Vicky Pattison gushing: "Never been happier for someone".
