Peter Capaldi has spoken fondly of the "affection" he received during his time in .

The seasoned actor, 66, took on the iconic role of the Twelfth Doctor in the beloved sci-fi spectacle and has expressed that taking on the mantle of the Time Lord brought him a level of enjoyment which surpasses all his other roles due to the sheer excitement and admiration from the show's dedicated followers.

Sharing his experience with RadioTimes.com, Peter reflected: "It was just an incredible experience. Suddenly, you're in the middle of this fantastical , surrounded by people who love 'Doctor Who'."

Reflecting on past experiences, Peter said: "I was watching Tom Baker (who played the Fourth Doctor) talking about something, and he said that when he was Doctor Who, he would do tons and tons of publicity and stuff, because being Doctor Who was much more fun than being Tom Baker, and I would say the same, probably, being Doctor Who is much more fun than being me."

On becoming a part of the Whovian legacy, he mused: "Certainly, you're in a very privileged position, because you receive the affection for that character. It is a character, it's not me, and it's a delightful place to be. It would be a hard part to sustain. I think, forever, but you do see the best of people, which is lovely."

Currently appearing in the Amazon Prime Video series 'The Devil's Hour', Peter plays a man with the unique capacity to 'remember' the future. Despite this, he clarified that he is not specifically drawn to characters who have peculiar relationships with time.

The star of 'Thick of It' expressed: "Obviously, I seem to have some facility for impersonating these characters who have this relationship with time. It's just being the kind of actor you bring yourself to everything, really.

"There are little overlaps (with 'Doctor Who'), which is fine, but (as an actor), you learn a certain skill about how you look angry or look sad or whatever. But actually, actors really are an accumulation of their life and their life's experiences and also their roles."
