ITV has issued an update on an Australian drama which broke streaming records for the broadcaster. The Twelve was ITVX’s most streamed premiere and it's now been given the green light for a third series.

The courtroom drama has proved a huge hit with viewers in the UK where it has been streamed over 26 million times since the first series launched on ITVX in February 2023. This makes it one of the platform’s most successful dramas to date. The second series was streamed this year.

Starring Peaky Bliners and Jurassic Park actor Sam Neill as criminal barrister Brett Colby, the first two series shined a spotlight on two separate cases.

The first trial focused on a woman who was accused of murdering her niece while the second trial involved two ex-lovers accused of murdering farm owner Bernice Price, played by Kris McQuade, who is known for her roles in Rosehaven and horror movie Cargo.

The series is seen through the eyes of twelve ordinary jurors who must weigh up the evidence and find the defendants guilty or not guilty. Each one is grappling with their own dramas.

The Twelve also stars Frances O’Connor as senior solicitor Meredith Nelson-Moore. She also directed the 2022 film Emily about the writer Emily Bronte.

Now it has been confirmed that The Twelve has been commissioned by the FOXTEL Group for another series. The show is produced by Warner Bros, International Production and Easy Tiger, while Fifth Season provides global distribution.

It will see Brett dissect a cold case murder trial set in Margaret River in Western Australia. Teasing the fans ahead of the series, he said: "With many twists and turns and surprises, it will keep you guessing until the end."

The Twelve is an adaptation of 2019 Belgian miniseries De twaalf by Sanne Nuyens and Bert Van Dael.

The Twelve series one and two are available on ITVX
