Gender reveal parties are becoming increasingly popular among expectant , who use a variety of methods to announce whether a boy or girl is soon to be welcomed into the .

Cakes, balloons, confetti and scratch cards are just a few examples of the fun ways future mums and dads reveal the gender of their unborn child. But one mum-to-be was left wishing he hadn't bothered with the idea after a bakery completely ruined her surprise.

In a voicemail, the pregnant woman's excitement soon turned to despair after she learned from the unidentified bakery that her order couldn't be fulfilled due to a lack of blackberries. "Listen to this voicemail I got from the bakery completely ruining my gender reveal," she cursed in a video shared to .

A female member of staff at the bakery is then heard on the recording: "Please give me a call regarding your order. You ordered a single lemon with blackberry – we don't have blackberry filling. The only thing that makes the lemon a single lemon is lemon curd," therefore spoiling the surprise that the couple's baby was a boy.

Clearly aware of the purpose of the cake, however, the message continued: "You wanted a gender reveal so we need to talk about the cake. Give me a call."

The footage, which also made its way to X (formerly ) where it has been viewed almost eight million times, was captioned: "She had asked for blackberries for a boy and raspberries for a girl. The bakery had one job."

One X user slammed: "The lady could’ve easily asked 'Am I speaking to one of the parents?'" Another penned: "Should’ve called and said hey there’s an issue with the requested berries."

Whilst a third hit out: "They knew she was the one who placed the order and had in the notes don't tell her what's inside the cake. They didn't need to call her in the first place as they were never even out of blackberries. Even if they were out, what was written in the order was to do a red fruit for a girl and a dark fruit for a boy. Blackberries/blueberries were only a suggestion. The employee just didn't read the order properly whatsoever."

Defending the bakery, however, one X user responded: "Anger is misplaced. Lady is doing her job. She probably assumed it was a friend or family member who placed the order. You need support from others to throw a gender reveal without a hitch. Someone else should’ve done the cake without parents involved. Mom shouldn’t be mad at the lady."

A second person concurred: "The baker was 100% looking at it from a baker’s perspective. She didn’t have the ingredient the client wanted and let them know. While it’s unfortunate and the mum is allowed to be upset, it was a simple mistake that should be forgiven."

And a third pondered: "Why would she leave her own number as the contact if she wanted to be surprised? What did she think was gonna happen?"
