The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has taken a big decision, which will affect lakhs of maths students across the country. CBSE has now given the freedom to choose maths in class 11th to those students who used to study basic maths in class 10th. CBSE has taken this decision yesterday. The board said that keeping in mind the desire of the students to study maths, it is being allowed that now students studying basic maths (241) in class 10 can also take maths (041) in class 11th.
What did the board say?
In a statement, CBSE said, "This rule is being relaxed this time for the academic session 2025-26. Thus, students who have offered Basic Math (241) are allowed to offer Math (041) in class 11. Before allowing such students to offer Math (041) in class 11, the head of the institution/school should ensure that the students have the ability and capacity to pursue Math (041) in class 11."
Rule being implemented in 2025-26 academic session
CBSE introduced 2 levels of Math for secondary school examination in March 2020, Math (Standard) and Math (Basic). Math Standard for those who wish to take Math (041) at the senior secondary level and Math Basic for those who do not wish to opt for Math at the higher level. Those who have taken basic mathematics in class 10th are allowed to study only applied mathematics. However, the board gave relaxation due to the Kovid epidemic and other issues and allowed the students of basic math to study math in class 11. Further said that this relaxation will continue for the 2025-26 academic session as well.
Subjects cannot be left later
The board has requested the schools to convey this information to the students and their parents so that they can know about it. The board said that once the subjects are filled in the List of Candidates (LOC), it cannot be changed later.
