New Delhi [India], August 28 (ANI): Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh on Thursday hit back at Congress MP Rahul Gandhi over his remarks labelling the 'Gujarat Model' as a "model of theft," accusing him of misleading people and undermining democratic institutions.
Sharpening his attacks, the Union Minister stated that whatever Rahul Gandhi says is far from reality.
This came after Congress MP Rahul Gandhi augmented his allegations of "vote theft" against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, and claimed that the Gujarat model was essentially a "model of theft".
Union Minister Singh said, "Rahul Gandhi's mentality is to disorganise the country. Whatever he says is not related to facts. When elections were happening in Gujarat, who was ruling the country? It was the UPA government. So how did PM Modi steal the election? Rahul Gandhi and opposition leaders want such people to get voting rights in this country who are not citizens of this country..."
He further attacked the Congress for aligning with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) despite the fact that they are considered "symbols of corruption."
"Tejashwi Yadav is roaming with them, Lalu Yadav is embracing them, those who are considered symbols of corruption in this country. Due to the fodder scam that happened during Lalu Prasad's tenure as Chief Minister, he had to go to jail. Ultimately, the court pronounced its verdict and sentenced him... Corruption is their habit..." the Union Minister stated.
Speaking on the issue of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar, Lalan Singh said, "The Election Commission has released the complete list at the booth level... The Election Commission has stated in its intensive revision program that you have 11 options, by submitting which you can prove that you are a citizen of this country... These people themselves want to indulge in fraud during the elections. Why didn't say anything when won in Karnataka, Telangana?"
On Wednesday, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi augmented his allegations of "vote theft" against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, and claimed that the Gujarat model was essentially a "model of theft".
He said that Congress will prove the allegations of vote theft "beyond a doubt" in the coming days.
"We will inform you within the next six months that they have developed a model of theft in the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha, which they have named the Gujarat model. It was not an economic model, but a model of theft," Gandhi, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Lok Sabha, said while addressing the gathering in Muzaffarpur on the tenth day of the 'Voter Adhikaar Yatra.' The 16-day 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' in Bihar, involving Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, aims to raise awareness about alleged irregularities in the voter list, which opposition leaders have termed a case of 'vote chori' (vote theft).
Covering over 1,300 km across 20 districts, the yatra is scheduled to conclude in Patna on September 1.
Bihar Assembly elections are expected later this year, although the Election Commission of India (ECI) has not announced an official date. (ANI)
