Quick commerce app Blinkit’s gross order value (GOV) reached Rs 9,421 crore for the January-March quarter of FY2025, coming close to Zomato’s food delivery segment’s GOV, which was Rs 9,778 crore.
A year ago, Blinkit’s GOV was at Rs 4,027 crore for Q4 of FY2024. It was less than half of the Rs 8,437 crore reported by Zomato’s food delivery segment.
In just a year, Blinkit’s GOV increased by 134%, driven by its aggressive expansion strategies. In the March quarter, the quick-commerce arm added 294 dark stores, taking the total count to 1,301.
In the past, CEO Deepinder Goyal had said that quick commerce platform Blinkit will become bigger than food delivery app Zomato.
That said, Zomato's parent company, Eternal Ltd, has introduced a new metric alongside GOV for its business-to-consumer segments—food delivery, quick commerce, and going-out—called net order value (NOV). It is calculated by subtracting discounts (funded by the platform or its partners) from GOV.
“Over the last few quarters, the share of non-grocery category products selling on the Blinkit platform has increased meaningfully. The products in these categories typically have an MRP (maximum retail price) which is significantly higher than the normal market selling price of these products. This is leading to a widening gap between GOV (which is reported on MRP) and what the customer actually pays on Blinkit. NOV corrects for this anomaly,” the company said in a letter to its shareholders.
Even in this metric, the firm’s quick commerce arm appears to be catching up. For the March quarter, the NOV for food delivery was Rs 8,210 crore, while it was Rs 7,362 crore for quick commerce.
