Oil marketing companies have announced a Rs 24 reduction in the price of 19-kg commercial LPG gas cylinders, effective from June 1.
Following the cut, the retail price of the cylinder in the national capital now stands at Rs 1,723.50. This is the third straight monthly reduction, following price drops of Rs 41 in April and Rs 14.50 in May.
The price revision applies only to commercial LPG cylinders, used primarily by businesses such as restaurants and hotels.
The cost of domestic LPG cylinders used in household kitchens remains unchanged. The rate for a 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder continues at Rs 853 in Delhi. Domestic cooking gas prices were last revised in April, when they were hiked by Rs 50 per cylinder.
Alongside the LPG price update, the price of aviation turbine fuel (ATF) was also reduced on June 1. Jet fuel prices in Delhi were cut by Rs 2,414.25 per kilolitre, or 2.82%, bringing the new rate down to Rs 83,072.55 per kl. This follows previous reductions of 4.4% in May and 6.15% in April, more than offsetting earlier hikes this year.
In Mumbai, ATF now costs Rs 77,602.73 per kl, while prices in Chennai and Kolkata are Rs 86,103.25 and Rs 86,052.57 per kl, respectively. Fuel accounts for nearly 40% of an airline's operational costs, and the recent cuts could offer relief to the aviation sector. No immediate comment was available from airline operators.
Commercial LPG in Mumbai now costs Rs 1,647.50, down from previous rates. Price differences across cities are due to variations in local taxes and transportation costs.
Price revisions for ATF and LPG are carried out monthly by state-owned fuel retailers like Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL), based on global benchmarks and currency exchange rates.
International oil prices have seen a downward trend in recent months due to weakening global demand projections amid ongoing trade tensions. These movements have influenced the current revision in both LPG and ATF prices.
Petrol and diesel rates, however, remain unchanged. Retail prices for petrol and diesel have been frozen since a Rs 2 per litre cut in mid-March last year. In Delhi, petrol is priced at Rs 94.72 per litre, and diesel at Rs 87.62.
