Divorce can be a troubling period of life for most people, it can even feel devastating as it symbolises the erosion of a family, a relationship you have sacrificed a lot to ‘save’.

However, divorce has become a cause for celebration for this Pakistani woman. In a video, which has now gone viral on the Internet, a woman, dressed in a purple lehenga, is seen shaking a leg enthusiastically to the popular Bollywood song ‘Zor Ka Jhatka’ (from the Akshay Kumar-Aishwarya Rai-starrer ‘Action Replayy’), which depicts marriage as a lifelong punishment.

In the background of the video, a large banner displays “Divorce Mubarak,” playfully twisting the usual “Shaadi Mubarak” greeting. The footage was posted on the Facebook page “My Home Islamabad” and quickly went viral. It features a woman being showered with banknotes while she dances, seemingly to celebrate her divorce.

The location of the video is not immediately known, but according to the Pakistani news site Minute Mirror, the woman runs a store in the United States and organized a divorce party to signify a fresh start. The video has received millions of views and thousands of comments on Facebook. Reactions in the comments section are mixed, with some criticizing her behavior as “immoral” and others applauding her joyful embrace of a new chapter.

The video became viral on X, gaining more than 6.6K likes. Many netizens flooded the comment section and advocated for normalising divorce, arguing that it is a healthy alternative to staying in a loveless or abusive marriage.

“Divorce should not be celebrated at all. Yes, it frees you from a toxic relationship. Yes, it liberates you from a narcissist. Yes, it is good for your mental health. Yes, you can heal from the trauma. But if we start celebrating the divorce, people will be afraid to get married. The number of proud single mothers is already on the rise. Absent father for children is trauma,” one comment read.

. “Maybe she had a very bad marriage. Let's not judge someone without knowing their side of the story,” opined another X user.
