Shamita had traveled from Jaipur to Chandigarh for an event, only to discover upon arrival that her essential belongings, along with her hairdresser’s bag, had been left behind due to weight restrictions. The actress criticized the airline’s handling of the situation, highlighting the lack of communication with passengers.
Shamita shared her experience on X (formerly Twitter), explaining that the incident left her stranded at Chandigarh Airport. She expressed disappointment that neither she nor the other affected passengers were informed before their luggage was removed. According to Shamita, the airline expected her to wait for the next available flight, which was scheduled to arrive after her event had concluded.
IndiGo responds
Following her post, IndiGo issued a public apology, requesting Shetty’s contact details to address the issue directly. However, Shamita responded by reiterating that offloading luggage without notifying passengers is unacceptable. She also noted that several other travelers faced the same inconvenience, calling for better accountability and service from the airline.
"Ms Shetty, we apologize for the inconvenience caused and would like to address the matter. We tried to contact you on the registered number, but the calls went unanswered. Could you please DM us an alternate contact number and a convenient time for us to reach out," IndiGo said in a tweet.
The incident has reignited discussions around customer service and baggage handling, with budget airlines often coming under scrutiny for operational lapses. Some social media users defended the airline, pointing out that safety and load management can justify baggage removal.
