The new President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Kirsty, on Thursday put a halt on the ongoing process for hosting the Olympics 2036. This may take time to decide on India's bid to host. Kirsty has formed a working group (committee) to find out the appropriate time to identify the future host.

Why was the ban imposed?
In an online press conference after taking over as the first woman and first African president of the IOC, former Olympic champion swimmer Kirsty said that there is a consensus among the members to reevaluate the process. After her first executive board meeting in Lausanne, Kirsty said, "There has been overwhelming support from IOC members to review and put a halt to the future host election process and we will form a working group to consider it. (This) has happened for two main reasons. First, the members want to be more and more involved in this process and second, there was a lot of discussion on when the next host should be selected." 'When is the right time to choose the future host'
Kirsty said the executive board members felt the experience of the already decided future hosts Los Angeles (2028 Summer Games), Brisbane (2032 Summer Games) and French Alps (2030 Winter Games) should be studied before moving forward on future proposals. Kirsty further said, 'So there was a lot of discussion on when is the right time to choose the future host. And also how we should select the future host.'
A delegation led by Hari Ranjan Rao will go to Lausanne next month
India had given a letter of intent to host the 2036 Games in October last year. A delegation led by Sports Secretary Hari Ranjan Rao is scheduled to visit Lausanne next month for informal talks on the issue. Kirsty said the visit would take place as per the scheduled program. He said, 'We want all interested parties to be a part of this moratorium and consider it. I am aware of a delegation coming next weekend which will continue.'
