The last 30 days before the SAT can feel intense. You’re close enough to see the finish line, yet there’s still a lot in motion. It’s common to feel a mix of anticipation, pressure, and that lingering question: “Am I preparing the right way?”
At this point, the goal is not to cover everything but to concentrate on the areas where small things can help you improve. After working with thousands of students, I can confidently say: success in the final month doesn’t come from doing more; it comes from doing what matters. Here’s how to focus your efforts.
Refine what you know; don’t expand your syllabus
In the final month, your attention should shift from covering new topics to strengthening the areas you’ve already studied. This is the time to reinforce core concepts, not open new chapters.
Go back to your practice tests and review where points slipped away. Focus on recurring patterns: perhaps it's unit conversions in math, punctuation in grammar, or inference in reading. Set specific goals around these weaker areas. Improvement comes from repeated focus, not scattered revision.
Practice full-length tests under real conditions
Working on practice questions is useful, but it’s full-length, timed simulations that help you build the endurance and focus needed for test day. Take at least two official practice tests using the Bluebook app.
Try to recreate the actual testing experience: same device, timed sections, no interruptions. This helps you get comfortable with digital navigation, pacing, and the structure of the adaptive format. By simulating the test environment, you train both your mind and your mindset for the real day.
Get familiar with the digital tools and format
The digital SAT introduces new dynamics, from screen reading to on-screen tools like the calculator, annotation feature, and timer. It’s important to build familiarity now so you’re not figuring them out during the exam.
Spend a few minutes daily practising on-screen reading. Choose articles or essays similar in length and tone to SAT passages. Use the Bluebook tools regularly so you can switch between features smoothly and stay focused on content rather than navigation.
Build smart time strategies
Effective time management is often what separates a good score from a great one. With shorter sections and adaptive testing, you need to maintain a steady rhythm throughout the exam.
Set small time checkpoints during practice. For example, aim to complete every 5 questions in a certain amount of time. If you find yourself stuck on a question, move ahead. Learning to let go and return later if time allows is part of a strong test strategy.
Check the technical essentials early
Technical readiness may seem minor, but it has a major impact on your test-day confidence. Take a few simple steps to ensure everything runs smoothly:
Update your device and fully charge it before the test.
Install and test the Bluebook application in advance.
Complete any system checks or identification steps.
Pack your charger and any allowed tools a day ahead.
When these details are sorted, you can focus your full attention on the test without unnecessary distractions.
Prepare your mind as much as your materials
Performance on test day is shaped not just by what you know, but by how calm and focused you are. Begin adjusting your daily schedule now so your body and brain are aligned with test-day timing.
In your last week, try reducing heavy studying. Review lightly, go over key notes, and focus on mental clarity. Use techniques like deep breathing, positive visualisations, or even short walks to stay composed. Rest is not a break from preparation, but it’s a part of it.
Bringing it all together
With 30 days to go, your foundation is already built. Now it’s about alignment, refining skills, practising with intention, and preparing to perform. Don’t worry about being perfect. Focus on being prepared, steady, and confident.
You’ve done the work. This is your time to bring it all together.
