Mumbai: In a shocking case of suspected homicide, the Shivaji Nagar Police have registered a murder case against a 19-year-old man, Jishan Shabbir Ahmad, in connection with the suspicious death of his 16-year-old cousin. Jishan is accused of allegedly mixing a poisonous substance into a soft drink named Sting and offering it to the minor, leading to his death.
According to police, the incident took place in Mumbai’s Govandi area, where both the accused and the victim resided. Jishan, originally from Madhubani in Bihar, had been staying in Shivaji Nagar on rent for the past seven months with his friends Lal Mohammad and Umar. He worked as a car painter.
As per the complaint filed by the victim’s father, Naushad Nasir Shaikh,36, a truck driver residing in Baiganwadi, Govandi, he lived with his wife Roshan, daughter Saiba, and son Shahid alias Sonu,16. On June 24, Roshan had travelled to Madhubani for a religious event, leaving Naushad to care for the children.
On the morning of June 29, Shahid left the house as usual to roam nearby but did not return. Naushad began searching for him. The next day around 4 PM, Naushad received a call from his wife Roshan, who informed him that Jishan had contacted her and claimed Shahid was unconscious at his residence.
Naushad, along with a local doctor, rushed to Jishan’s residence. The doctor examined Shahid and declared him dead, describing the circumstances as suspicious. When questioned, Jishan claimed that Shahid had consumed "Sting" a soft drink the previous night, felt uneasy, vomited, and then lost consciousness.
Initially, the Shivaji Nagar police registered an accidental death case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyay Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and began an investigation.
On July 4, a new twist emerged when one of Shahid’s friends came forward with crucial information. The friend revealed that on June 29, while they were sitting in an auto-rickshaw, Shahid received a call from Jishan. Appearing frightened, Shahid left immediately.
Shortly after, Jishan arrived and took Shahid with him. That evening, around 6:30 PM, the friend spotted Shahid again—unconscious in an auto-rickshaw, with Jishan sitting beside him. Jishan reportedly told him that Shahid had vomited after drinking Sting.
Further background revealed that a few months ago, Jishan had taken Shahid to Nagpur without the family's consent. After that, Naushad had warned Shahid to stay away from his cousin. The family suspects that Jishan, holding a grudge, intentionally poisoned the drink to kill Shahid.
