A 20 year old boy and his classmate died in a bike crash in an attempt to race along with other two bikes on Saturday at Uran.
The incident happened on Saturday afternoon after a speeding motorcycle rammed into the sidewall of an overbridge near Pagote on the Coastal Road in Uran.
The deceased have been identified as Samim Mubin Khan (20), a resident of Nerul, and his class ate Bansi Ramesh Patel (20), who lived in Sector 17, Kamothe. Both were students of Sterling College. According to police, they were on their way to Uran for an outing along with four other friends who were on two other bukes when the incident occurred.
"The group of friends had first decided to go to Pandavkada at Kharghar. But after reaching there police stopped them from going up and so they decided to go to Pirwadi beach at Uran," senior police inspector Jitendra Misal said. He further said that his friends have given statement to police that deceased Khan, who was riding the bike insisted his friends that they should have a race as the road was empty. "The friends told us that they all denied but Khan was excited to race and sped his bike and eventually lost control hitting against the wall of bridge and then a sign board on the road side. The impact was hard that the sign board got bent," Misal added.
