Thane: The Thane city police registered a criminal case against a female doctor associated with a private hospital in Manpada, nearly two years after the death of a pregnant woman and her unborn child. The action follows a medical inquiry that revealed serious lapses in treatment.
According to the police, the 29-year-old woman, a resident of Ghodbunder Road, was admitted to the private hospital on February 9, 2022. She was under medical care there until late afternoon, when doctors advised her family to shift her to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital, run by the Thane Municipal Corporation.
Woman & Foetues Died During Transfer
Tragically, both the woman and her foetus died soon after being transferred to the civic hospital. The woman’s husband filed a complaint at the Kasarvadavli police station, alleging that the private hospital had failed to provide timely and adequate treatment, leading to the double fatality.
Following the complaint, the police launched a formal investigation and asked the Thane District Government Hospital to conduct an expert review of the case. The medical panel was tasked with examining the line of treatment administered at the private hospital and assessing whether it complied with standard medical procedures and emergency response protocols.
“The medical report highlighted multiple lapses in treatment and clearly stated that timely medical intervention could have saved the lives of both the woman and her unborn child,” said a police officer involved in the case, as quoted by Times of India.
Criminal Case Filed Against Doctor
While the woman's husband passed away in 2023, the investigation continued. On Tuesday, officers from the Kasarvadavli police station called in the woman’s father and briefed him on the findings of the report. A criminal case was then registered against the doctor under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), including those related to negligence causing death. Police have stated that further legal action will follow based on the evidence and expert testimony.
