Transport Minister Surya Jungrungruangkit said the incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon when the bus was passing through Pathum Thani province, a northern suburb of the capital. The fire spread so fast that it engulfed the entire bus in a matter of minutes. Efforts were made to rescue the people trapped in the bus, but rescue operations were difficult due to the intensity of the fire. Security personnel present at the scene were struggling to extinguish the fire and enter the bus, as the bus was very hot for a long time.

Difficulties in rescue operations

Home Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said that the death toll could rise given the severity of the accident. So far, 25 people have been confirmed dead based on the number of survivors. For several hours after the accident, it was difficult to evacuate the people trapped inside the bus because the fire was very intense. The Prime Minister expressed condolences

Prime Minister Patongtarn Shinawatra expressed deep condolences over the tragic incident on social media platform X and said that the government will bear the cost of treatment of the injured and compensation will be given to the families of the deceased. The Prime Minister also said that all possible help will be provided to the families affected by such an incident so that they can overcome this difficult time.

The accident happened due to a tyre burst

According to preliminary investigations, the accident occurred due to a tyre burst, after which the bus hit a road barrier and caught fire. A rescue worker present at the scene said that the fire spread very fast, making rescue operations difficult. A rescue team member said on his Facebook page that at least 10 bodies have been recovered from inside the bus. The accident has shocked the entire country and is being investigated thoroughly.
