Brit stays in world's first IKEA hotel and particular detail leaves him amazed

IKEA fans with a penchant for travel, take note: the Swedish flat-pack furniture giant is venturing into the hospitality sector. Travel expert Dave, known as Mr TravelOn on social media, has provided a glimpse into the company's new hotel in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria.

Taking to TikTok, Dave showed off the 27-room boutique establishment, which provides guests with dining options within very cosy and familiar surroundings. Revealing the resort is an adults-only affair, he shared in a video from the location: "It is just amazing, with the inside all decorated with IKEA, and the outside having all garden furniture around a beautiful pool that just lights up the evening. The sunbeds are all IKEA here, which is what the novelty is all about - it's such a cool idea."

Upon entering his room, Dave was gobsmacked to find it decked out precisely like an IKEA showroom. "This is just amazing," he gushed, showcasing the double bed. "The IKEA rug, even IKEA lights too."

He continued to praise the room's air-con and fridge, then drew attention to the desk – a hit item from IKEA's catalogue. In the washroom, Dave admired the "nice, big walk-in shower" and the "good quality" pink IKEA towels.

Further impressed by the Krups coffee machine, the "nice big, fluffy blanket", and his private terrace with views of the pool, Dave couldn't help but exclaim: "That's madness."

He soon returned with part 2 of his revelations, posting a video that kicked off with him tucking into the hotel's continental breakfast – minus Ikea's iconic Swedish meatballs.

"It's IKEA plates, IKEA cutlery... it's IKEA everything," Dave remarked. "The continental breakfast is included in the price - you get all your coffee - and what a place to enjoy breakfast, just sitting and looking over the pool from your table."

Dave then confessed he was "really impressed by the spread" as he showcased the array of meats, cheeses, fruits, and bread available.

"Of course they have got all your pastries and cakes too," he added. "I got straight into all the cold-cuts and fresh salmon - a protein-filled breakfast along with a bit of bread cut with an IKEA knife of course."

After popping back up for a plate brimming with fruit and nuts, Dave concluded: "This has to be one of the healthiest breakfasts I have ever had. Fresh strawberries, blueberries, dragon fruit, raspberries - which you don't normally see in the Canary Islands - and blackberries as well. It's beautiful."

Yet, it wasn't the amenities, location, breakfast, or bedrooms that truly captured Dave's interest.

From his review, it was clear that the standout feature was the extensive use of IKEA furnishings throughout the accommodation. After all, what's an IKEA hotel without some quintessential Scandi chic?
