Child Benefit payments not paid as hundreds of parents furious over TSB glitch

Send Push

Hundreds of parents have been unable to access their Child Benefit and other payments following a technical error at TSB Bank.

The issue appeared to start around 6am this morning, with over 300 complaints picked up on outage tracker DownDetector by 9am. TSB customers have taken to social media to complain that some payments, including Child Benefit, are not showing in their accounts.

Child Benefit is worth £25.60 a week for your first child, then £16.95 a week for any additional child you may have. You normally receive it straight into your bank account every four weeks, on a Monday or Tuesday, and it is paid by HMRC.

In a post on X/Twitter, one person said: "TSB, I’ve received other benefit payments into my TSB account today just not Child Benefit." In reply to this, another person said: "I’ve not had my CB either." A third person fumed: "Expecting to be paid today & no money whatsoever showing all down to more issues! Any bank recommendations because I think after today it’s time to be changing banks!!"

A fourth posted: "How do I go about making a complaint on my money not going in, I have bills to pay today that have bounced and I've got another few days until wages this is just not acceptable." Another said: "Any chance of me getting my money that has been paid to my account? I’ve got bills to pay."

TSB - which has over five million customers in the UK - confirmed it is experiencing issues and is working on a fix. It isn't clear what exactly is causing the glitch. A spokesperson from TSB said: “We're aware of an issue with some BACS payments not yet showing on customers’ accounts. We are working on fixing this and will provide an update as soon as possible.”

HMRC has replied to some people on X, telling them to contact their bank first if they've yet to receive their Child Benefit payment. They added: "We are aware of this and understand this relates to issues certain banking providers are experiencing." The Mirror has contacted HMRC for comment.
