If you are considering a trip to Majorca (known locally as Mallorca) this year, you may want to heed the advice of a previous visitor to the Spanish island who shared a list of things you should know about the location. Ella Kahan, who visited the largest of the Balearic Islands earlier this month, took to TikTok to issue advice to fellow travellers.
According to abc-Mallorca, more than 3.5 million Brits headed to the island in 2023, though this figure represented a 3.2% decline on the previous year. Britons still equate for the second largest group of tourists to the hotspot however. "These are the five things you need to know before travelling to Majorca, Spain," she began in a video.
Size"The first thing you should know is Majorca is way bigger than you think and everything is pretty spread apart," Ella explained. To combat this, she recommends getting a hotel closest to the attractions you want to do most.

"Some beaches and towns are up to an hour from each other," she added.
PalmaWhile Palma may be the largest and most populous city on the island, Ella believes it's not an essential part of your Majorca itinerary. "I personally don't think you need more than one night or a day trip to Palma," she revealed.
But why not? "It's really hot and crowded," she said. "And it's personally not my favourite area."
Getting aroundThird on Ella's list is her reasoning for "definitely" renting a car to get around. "Getting to and from places isn't easy and taxis in some places are non-existent," she claimed. "So you're better off getting a car and exploring your way around that way."
Finding a parking place in close proximity to busy beaches can prove a challenge, however, and as such, Ella recommends giving yourself ample time to allow for this. "Once you park, it's usually quite a hike down to the beach," she continued. "So prepare for a long walk and bring water and your own towel."
Ella added: "I would also recommend swim shoes - I regret not buying them so much. They look really silly, but they are integral to walking on the rocks on the beaches here." Noting the beaches can be "quite rustic", Ella suggests heading to a beach club for drinks - in particular, Grand Follies or "one of the nicer hotels" with beach access.
TramsConfessing her opinion on this matter may be somewhat "controversial", Ella said getting the Soller tram in high season wasn't an experience she enjoyed. "In August it is brutally hot and crazy crowded and literally feels like Disney World," she quipped.
BoatingElla's final point concerns boating, meanwhile. "I think it's important to splurge for a boat day," she said. "There are so many cool beaches to see and it's just easier to see them by boat."
