Friends, as we all know India is an agricultural country and farmers are considered God here, the livelihood of crores of farmers depends entirely on their crops. Farmers work hard for months to cultivate their fields, but the unpredictability of nature often turns their efforts into losses. Drought, flood and unseasonal rains can destroy crops in a matter of hours, putting farmers in trouble. To avoid this loss, the government has launched the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) - it is a crop insurance scheme designed to provide financial security.
Key features of Crop Insurance Scheme:
Low premium, high security Under this scheme, farmers can get their crops insured by paying a very low premium. The remaining amount is borne by the government. Financial compensation on crop loss In case of crop loss due to natural calamities like flood, drought, hailstorm or pests, farmers are entitled to full compensation after proper verification.
Simple registration process
Farmers can register by visiting the official website of the scheme.
Those with Kisan Credit Card (KCC) can also apply directly through their bank branch.
Mandatory reporting of damage
If there is damage to the crop, the farmer has to inform the agriculture department within 72 hours. The field is inspected, and if the claim is found to be valid, the insurance amount is released.
Why this scheme is important:
Encourages farmers to continue farming without the fear of unexpected losses.
Reduces the burden of loans taken for seeds, fertilizers and other inputs.
Provides timely financial assistance, promoting economic stability in rural areas.
