New Delhi: A helicopter carrying the President of India to the Pramadom Stadium in Kerala met with an accident and Draupadi Murmu had a narrow escape. Actually, during landing, the wheel of her helicopter got stuck in the newly constructed helipad. President Draupadi Murmu is in Kerala on a four-day official visit. During this, she also has a program to visit the Sabarimala temple and perform Aarti. After this incident, the police and fire department personnel somehow pushed the helicopter out of the place safely.

President's chopper crashes into helipad

According to a report by news agency ANI, a portion of the helipad caved in as the chopper carrying President Draupadi Murmu landed. President Murmu is on a visit to Kerala from October 21st to 24th. She landed at Thiruvananthapuram airport on Tuesday, where she was received by the state's Governor, Chief Minister, and other dignitaries.

'Helipad constructed in a hurry'

According to a Moneycontrol report, the helipad at the Pramadom Stadium could not support the helicopter's weight, and craters formed as soon as it touched down. The report, quoting a senior police officer, claims that the helipad was constructed in a hurry. According to the officer, due to bad weather, Pramadom Stadium was chosen for the landing instead of Nilakkal. Therefore, it was constructed only on Tuesday night, and the concrete had not yet dried, leading to the incident.

Draupadi Murmu is on a four-day visit to Kerala

Earlier on Tuesday, upon the President's arrival in Kerala, his official X handle wrote, "Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan , and Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs and Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying George Kurian welcomed President Draupadi Murmu on her arrival in Thiruvananthapuram." Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan posted on X, "Hon'ble President of India Draupadi Murmu was warmly welcomed on her arrival in Kerala. Her presence is a matter of great honour for the state and our people."
