Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kazan on Tuesday to attend the 16th BRICS Summit, where he held a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The summit is expected to feature key discussions, with PM Modi also scheduled to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

During the summit, PM Modi emphasized India's commitment to promoting global peace. He stated, "India stands ready to play whatever role is required for peace," highlighting India's proactive stance in international affairs.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri noted that India views BRICS as essential for fostering global multipolarity and addressing pressing challenges worldwide. Leaders are anticipated to adopt the Kazan declaration, which will outline future cooperation among BRICS nations.

In addition to discussions on peace and cooperation, PM Modi will engage with various world leaders, including Turkey’s Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Iran’s Masoud Pezeshkian. Strengthening cultural exchanges, particularly in Indian studies and cinema, will also be a key focus of the agenda.

During his meeting with Putin, PM Modi expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome he received. He remarked, "I am truly pleased to visit the beautiful city of Kazan for the BRICS Summit. India has deep, historical ties with this city, and the opening of India's new embassy here will further strengthen those connections."

The summit also featured cultural performances, with a Russian artist expressing her excitement about performing for PM Modi and her team. She shared, "We were so thrilled and nervous. We rehearsed for this dance for almost three months... People here really admire PM Modi. He even told us that we are exciting dancers."
