Supreme Court Grants Bail to Amandeep Singh Dhall in Delhi Liquor Policy Case

The Supreme Court has granted bail to businessman Amandeep Singh Dhall, who was implicated in an alleged corruption case involving the now-scrapped Delhi liquor policy. Dhall had already received bail in a related case registered by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) concerning the same alleged scam.

A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan presided over Dhall's plea, challenging a previous Delhi High Court decision denying him bail. The court noted that Dhall had been in custody for nearly one and a half years, with no foreseeable end to the trial conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which has over 300 witnesses lined up for examination.

The bench observed that Dhall’s prolonged detention did not appear necessary and highlighted the need for the CBI to improve conviction rates. The Supreme Court granted bail under the conditions set by the trial court, requiring Dhall’s attendance at each hearing.

Dhall's arrest occurred last year as part of the ongoing investigation into the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam. With his release, all prominent accused in the case, including former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, AAP leader Manish Sisodia, and BRS leader K. Kavitha, have obtained bail in both ED and CBI cases. Kejriwal had resigned as Chief Minister two days after his release from Tihar Prison on bail.
