Sir Keir Starmer, the UK Prime Minister, is set to participate in an Armistice Day ceremony in Paris on Monday, marking a significant step toward strengthening ties with one of the European Union's leading nations as the UK prepares for potential post-Brexit adjustments.

Invited personally by French President Emmanuel Macron, Starmer will engage in discussions on pressing global matters, including the Ukraine crisis and tensions in the Middle East. His visit will also involve meetings with French veterans, defense charities, and British military personnel at the residence of the British ambassador in Paris. During the visit, Starmer is expected to meet with France’s newly appointed Prime Minister, Michel Barnier.

This diplomatic visit follows recent news of Donald Trump’s re-election as President of the United States, with his term set to begin in January. Concerns are mounting regarding Trump’s potential approach to U.S. support for Ukraine and NATO, particularly given past statements on foreign policy and defense commitments.

However, UK Defence Secretary John Healey has expressed optimism, saying he expects the United States to remain committed to aiding Ukraine "for as long as it takes to prevail over Putin’s invasion." He emphasized that the world will have to "wait and see" what new policies the U.S. administration might introduce once Trump assumes office.
