New Delhi: Businessman Samir Modi was arrested by Delhi Police on Thursday in connection with a rape case.
Samir, the younger brother of fugitive businessman and former IPL chief Lalit Modi, was taken into custody at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport while attempting to board a flight on Thursday evening.
According to police sources, the case relates to a complaint filed by the former live-in partner of Samir, who is the founder and managing director of direct selling company Modicare.
Based on the woman’s complaint five days ago, a case of rape and criminal intimidation was registered, leading to Samir’s arrest. The woman alleged that the incident took place earlier.
Samir was in the news last year also, over an inheritance dispute with his mother Bina Modi. He had sought protection from Delhi Police in June 2024, citing threats from his mother amid a family feud.
The feud was over the distribution of a Rs 11,000-crore inheritance following the death of family patriarch KK Modi in 2019.
Samir moved the Supreme Court against his mother, alleging that she failed to distribute the funds in accordance with the trust deed executed by his father.
