The poll of 18 to 28 year olds showed a major lifestyle shift, with 39% saying they prefer a night in to painting the town red. And when it comes to the perfect Saturday morning, 27% of young people prefer to be up doing a fitness session than sleeping in after a night out (20%). Staying fit is a top priority for today's young adults, with almost three-quarters (74%) saying they have skipped a night out to be fresh for a workout the next day.
The study, commissioned by Samsung, also revealed that 73% said their social plans had become more health-focused in the last year, while 41% say they would be interested in doing more social events that don't involve alcohol. Gen Z's healthy habits go well beyond attending the gym with 30% going to a juice bar or smoothie cafe at least once a week and 34% regularly consuming wellness drinks such as ginger shots, kombucha or matcha.
More than 24% have indulged in a new wellness trend, such as taking a cold plunge or practicing breathwork. Annika Bizon, Mobile Experience VP of Product and Marketing, at Samsung UK & Ireland, said: "With almost three-quarters of young people in the UK skipping a night out to be fresh for a morning workout, it's clear that the late-night party culture is giving way to a new kind of social life built around wellness and feeling your best."
"That shift is exactly why wearable tech is becoming so ingrained in our daily lives. Our new Galaxy Watch8 gives us the insights we need to make healthier choices, with tools like the Antioxidant Index, Running Coach and Bedtime Guidance helping to support a more balanced lifestyle that today's generation is actively embracing."
The research was commissioned to coincide with the launch of new health features on Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Series & Galaxy Ring. These include AI-powered sleep tracking, personalised training plans and Energy Score - a daily measurement of your physical and mental energy readiness.
