Not much is known about Schumacher's current condition, with his relatives keeping things under wraps to protect his privacy. Only a few details have been revealed over the years, but it seems clear that he has been greatly affected by his terrifying ordeal.

Mick has been relatively quiet about his father's situation but spoke about the topic in the Netflix documentary Schumacher. He expressed his wish for a deeper bond through their shared passion for racing and revealed that his father was still present, but to a lesser extent.

"I think dad and me, we would understand each other in a different way now," said Mick. "We would have had much more to talk about and that is where my head is most of the time, thinking that would be so cool. I would give up everything just for that.

"These moments that I believe many people have with their parents are no longer present, or to a lesser extent."

Mick also revealed that he still talks about racing with his father in a radio message while driving for Haas in F1. After picking up points at the British Grand Prix two years ago, he explained that he discussed his mentality with his dad before stepping into the cockpit.

"I said it, hell, it's been brilliant," said Mick after crossing the finish line. "They've been brilliant guys, unbelievably brilliant. Prove them wrong and believe in yourself, that's what I told dad."

Mick has also posted a selection of moving messages on social media to mark his father's birthdays. In January, he shared a picture of himself as a child alongside Michael with the caption: "Happy birthday to the best dad ever. Love you."
