F1 fans convinced Max Verstappen is quitting Red Bull after British GP interview

Max Verstappen has left F1 fans in no doubt that he'll leave Red Bull at the end of the season. Speculation around the future of the reigning world champion has intensified in recent weeks, amid his frustration with his failure to keep pace with McLaren.

The 27-year-old is currently contracted until the end of the 2028 season. However, his deal reportedly includes a release clause he can activate dependent on performance levels. Mercedes appear to be the frontrunners to capitalise on the situation, with George Russell in the final few months of his own deal.

Addressing the media ahead of this weekend's British Grand Prix, the Dutchman has now made some telling comments about his situation. Offered the opportunity to decline, he was looking for a switch, he said: "I do not talk about my contract.

"No decision has been made at the moment. For me, it is not about 2026 or anything. I just concentrate on what is coming and the cooperation with the team. Of course, many people come with assumptions. That certainly does not come from me."

Admitting he could give no assurances on where he would be next season, he added: "I don't think anyone can say with 100 per cent certainty that they will feel completely comfortable next year. There are so many unknowns for next year anyway. The only thing I can do is drive as fast as I can with what I have."

The comments were reposted on X, with @NorthPoleF1 responding with: "Sure doesn't sound like he's denying the possibility of a switch." @NorbertsBurner took a blunter approach, writing: "He's gone. Try to get Russell or Piastri."

Verstappen has been associated with Red Bull since August 2014, when he signed up with their junior programme. He was promoted to Christian Horner's team during 2016 and had dominated the sport since 2020, winning four straight drivers' crowns.
