The UK is expected to experience an unseasonably warm spell next week, with temperatures reaching up to 20C in some areas.

show a "heat bomb" of warm air pushing northwards, giving the UK a last taste of summer before the colder months fully set in.

According to forecasts, this will arrive around October 18, providing relief from the cooler temperatures typically expected during this time of year.

The weather map, by , shows that an area of high pressure will allow warm air from the south to surge into the UK, bringing with it temperatures of around 20C in the southern regions.

This warm air mass, depicted in yellow and orange, originates from southern Europe and North Africa, where temperatures remain significantly hotter.

As it moves northwards, it will cover much of western Europe, including the UK, France, and parts of Germany.

While southern England is expected to enjoy the highest temperatures, with highs potentially reaching 20C, northern regions will also experience milder conditions, with temperatures hovering around 15C.

Even Scotland, which often experiences chillier autumn weather, could see a boost in temperatures during this period.

Despite the warmer conditions, meteorologists are cautioning that this is likely to be a temporary reprieve, with colder air waiting to return.

The same weather map indicates a contrast of cooler air masses lingering to the east of Europe, which could bring lower temperatures back to the UK once the high-pressure system shifts.

A Met Office forecast said: "It will be rather breezy or windy, especially in the west and northwest, but with temperatures recovering to near or above-average, possibly bringing some warm conditions at times in the south and east.

"Towards the end of the period high pressure may become more influential, with temperatures potentially returning closer to the average for the time of year."
