London's smallest airport can take its travellers across Europe, but has plenty of restrictions due to the size of it.

City is located right in the heart of the capital and while it is limited with its one runway and close proximity to the rest of the city, it still offers travellers a route to some sought after holiday destinations.

The Docklands-based airport was opened in October 1987 and has since offered flights to Luxembourg, Amsterdam and Barcelona.

The majority of its flights are domestic with links to Edinburgh and Belfast.

While the airport has seen rapid growth since the turn of the century, it remains the smallest airport in London and usually sees just two to three million passengers a year.

Though it cannot handle larger planes that fly to further-off places, London City Airport does allow trips to Germany, Spain and France.

British Airways is the main airline that uses the airport, though Luxair, Loganair and Air Dolomiti are among those who have flights coming and going from London's smallest airport.

London City Airport features just one 1.5km-long runway, which is safe for smaller planes to land and depart from.

Some, according to TikTok user @qqnk4, mistake it for "London's main airport" because of its name. Larger airports for international flights like Gatwick, Heathrow and Stansted are located further away from central London.

Though it flies to 18 cities across the globe and often provides quick domestic routes, those on travel for work are the most likely to use the airport, according to the TikTok post.

Though it flies to 18 cities outside of the UK and provides quick domestic routes. It is used a lot by people travelling to work or making connections across Europe, and has convenient bus links to Canary Wharf.

In the comments under the TikTok video, Londoners debated over which other airports were technically in London. One user wrote: "Technically the only airport located in London." Another replied: "Heathrow also, surely?" But the original poster replied: "If you're a bit of a pedant like me, it's technically Surrey."

London City Airport currently operates between 4.45am to 10pm on Monday to Friday, while closing earlier on Saturday at 1pm. Sunday sees London City Airport open from 11am and close at 10pm.
