The saying goes, if you someone, set them free and if they return, they're yours. This adage seemed to ring true for Jenna and her now-husband Mitchell Brotherson, albeit in an unconventional manner. The couple, who first crossed paths in June 2019 and exchanged vows in September 2020, revealed that Jenna initially ended things with Mitchell as she was "too overwhelmed with life."

However, the day following their split, Mitchell suffered a severe while attempting a flip at Utah's Beaver Mountain, landing incorrectly and hitting his head. The then-22 year old recounted to how he blacked out, only to regain consciousness as were transporting him down the mountain, completely oblivious to his surroundings.

"He was going off a jump and it was super icy. His feet went in front of him and so he went off the jump and landed on his head," Jenna later explained to the publication. "It was a pretty severe concussion. He ended up failing most of his courses that semester and had to take a leave of absence after that to help his brain heal."

The outlet reported that a concussion severely affected one man's memory, leading him to forget he had split from Jenna. While in care, Mitchell called Jenna for a lift home, believing they were still an item, reports

"I'm like, 'Why is he messaging me this? I just broke up with him,'" Jenna shared in a TikTok video. Speaking to People, she said: "Mitch kept messaging me and trying to hang out after his concussion and I was confused as to why he would keep messaging me because we had broken up. I thought that maybe he took the statement of staying friends really seriously.

"It even was to the point when I told him that my roommates and I had a hard day and he came and brought us ice cream."

Jenna expressed regret over ending things, praising her ex for being "kind and thoughtful" and "just tried to help" rather than reacting negatively. After reconsidering the breakup, Jenna decided to give their relationship another shot.

"I was nervous to swallow my pride and ask if he would date again," Jenna admitted, recalling how she received a text from Mitchell suggesting they spend time together upon her return from Spring break. "After hanging out with friends we chatted in the evening and I asked to get back together with him. That was when I realized he had no clue we even broke up," she concluded.

"I told him about how we were in my car and what I said to him and what he said back," she continued. "He told me he didn't remember any of that except for chatting in the car. But he didn't remember what we chatted about. He thought it was super funny and I was relieved. It made it easy to get back together because to him, we never weren't together! " Five months on, Jenna revealed to People that Mitchell popped the question at Big Cottonwood Canyon - the very place where he first confessed his love for her.

Just three weeks later, they tied the knot. "During my husband's speech, he mentioned not remembering the break up but expressed his gratitude that everything worked out in the end," Jenna remembers.

"We are both 27 now and when people ask us about our love story it's our favourite part to share. We truly felt invisible strings pulling us together all along."
