Ruben Amorim will have the chance to unleash a deadly duo when Manchester United begin their Premier League campaign next month. The Red Devils kicked off their pre-season preparations on Saturday, taking on bitter rivals Leeds United in a friendly. It was not the most memorable contest, though, with the two sides playing out a dire goalless draw.
The occasion did give United fans the opportunity to see a couple of their new signings for the very first time. Matheus Cunha played in attack for the opening 45 minutes, with Amorim picking two different teams in each half. Diego Leon was also chosen to start, with the teenager being deployed as a left wing-back.
One player not involved was Bryan Mbeumo, who is still yet to complete the formalities of his proposed move to Old Trafford. United have agreed to pay a transfer fee of £71million, consisting of a guaranteed £65m with another £6m in potential add-ons.
The initial figure will be paid in four instalments, which leaves room in United's transfer budget for more business. Reports have suggested that Mbeumo will undergo his medical over the coming days before the move is officially confirmed next week.
Amorim will be excited to use the winger alongside Cunha, potentially forming a deadly attacking partnership. Both players were highly prolific last season, bagging 37 goals between them in all competitions.

The vast majority came in the Premier League, with Mbeumo scoring 20 times and Cunha trailing just behind with 17. In contrast, the highest league scorers at United were Bruno Fernandes and Amad, who only managed eight goals each.
Amorim will be hoping for Mbeumo and Cunha to carry their form into the new season, with the Red Devils in desperate need of more firepower. If everything clicks, they will be terrorising rival defences on a weekly basis.
Cunha, who arrived from Wolves last month, will be thrilled that Mbeumo is joining him Old Trafford. He made his feelings clear by liking Fabrizio Romano's post on Instagram shortly after the news was reported.
It has certainly been a long time coming, with United seeing multiple offers turned down before finally reaching a breakthrough. Their initial approach, worth around £45m with another £10m in potential bonuses, was immediately rejected by Brentford.
United went back in with a renewed bid of around £55m plus another £7.5m in add-ons. They received the same answer from Brentford, sparking fears that negotiations would tail off.
However, a third offer proved successful and the deal is now close to being finalised. Personal terms are not expected to be an issue and Mbeumo could join his new team-mates for United's pre-season tour across the Atlantic.
