Tobias Menzies, renowned for his roles as Jonathan 'Black Jack' Randall in Starz's Outlander and Prince Philip in Netflix's The Crown, has been cast in a new star-studded series. Menzies is set to feature in the forthcoming Apple TV+ show Prodigies, alongside Ayo Edebiri from The Bear and Will Sharpe from The White Lotus.
The series, created by Sharpe, centres on two former child prodigies in their early 30s who begin to question if their mundane lives are living up to the extraordinary potential they demonstrated in their youth.
The cast also boasts Andrene Ward-Hammond from Your Honor, Sophia Di Martino from Loki, Nabhaan Rizwan from Netflix's Kaos, Meera Syal from Roar, and Lolly Adefope from The Franchise. Fans of Netflix's Black Doves will be delighted to learn that Prodigies is produced by the same team, Sister.
Sharpe and Edebiri serve as Executive Producers, along with Jane Featherstone, Naomi de Pear, and Katie Carpenter, reports the Daily Record.
Viewers of White Lotus will recognise Sharpe from season 2, where he portrayed Ethan opposite Aubrey Plaza's Harper in the HBO series.
He also recently appeared as Felix in Netflix's Too Much, a series created by Girls star Lena Dunham.
Menzies, on the other hand, has featured in some of television's biggest shows, including Outlander, The Crown, and Game of Thrones.
He portrayed one of the most infamous antagonists in Outlander for 24 episodes from 2014 to 2018, sharing the screen with leading stars Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan.
Fans of Outlander can mark their calendars for the show's eighth and final season, set to premiere in early 2026, though an official release date is still under wraps.
In the interim, Outlander enthusiasts have much to anticipate as the prequel series Outlander: Blood of My Blood debuts this weekend on August 8 in the US and August 9 in the UK.
The forthcoming historical romance series offers a glimpse into the past with its synopsis: "This prequel to the Outlander series focuses on the lives and courtship of the parents of Jamie Fraser: Brian Fraser and Ellen Mackenzie as well as Claire Beauchamp's parents, Henry Beauchamp and Julia Moriston."
Harriet Slater and Jamie Roy will bring to life Jamie's parents, while Hermione Corfield and Jeremy Irvine will portray Claire's parents.
Additionally, Rory Alexander steps into the role of original character Murtagh Fitzgibbons, and Coronation Street's Sam Retford takes on a younger version of Graham McTavish's Dougal MacKenzie.
Outlander: Blood of My Blood will be available to stream on Saturday August 9 on MGM+ via Prime Video for UK fans.
