Paris Olympics opening ceremony viewers all say same thing in brutal 2012 comparison

Send Push

Disappointed Olympics 2024 viewers were all left making the same complaint as the Paris opening ceremony failed to impress.

As the French faced bad luck with the weather, and fan backlash over a drawn-out format of the countries being introduced by boat, UK viewers took to social media in their droves to praise Danny Boyle.

Boyle had been the mastermind behind the epic London ceremony, which saw thousands of volunteers, including the Queen, put on a huge performance for thrilled watchers.

Other legendary British stars took part in the glitzy ceremony, including the Spice Girls, who reunited on stage for a jaw-dropping performance, as well as George Michael and Paul McCartney.

Fans rushed to social media to make the brutal comparison, as one said: "Danny Boyle and Graham Norton trending, just goes to show that no one puts on a show like The Irish."

Another added: "Danny Boyle must be feeling very smug. This OC has looked patchy, disjointed and not very entertaining. 2012 was wonderful and memorable."

A third chimed in: "This STOP THE BOATS #OpeningCeremony by the French in Paris falls far far short of Danny Boyle's. Happy and Glorious. London, 2012. Bond ... James Bond."

A fourth added: "This is a very long reminder of the brilliance of Danny Boyle."

A fifth agreed: "12 years later and ten minutes in and this #OpeningCeremony is clearly coming nowhere near to London 2012," as a sixth grumbled: "Sorry but this has been pretty tedious saved by the beauty of Paris and some brilliant dancing - it's certainly no #London2012."

Meanwhile, iconic singer Celine Dion left viewers worried for her as she still hadn't turned up for the ceremony after hours of waiting, sparking fears she wouldn't perform.

Celine had been pictured in Paris, and had shared her love for the city with an Instagram post, penning: "Every time I return to Paris, I remember there's so much beauty and joy still to experience in the world.

"I love Paris, and I'm so happy to be back! Thank you to our wonderful friends at The Louvre!"

However, due to her Stiff Person Syndrome causing her constant pain and health issues, fans feared she was going to pull out at the last second.
