Fans of classic detective dramas have cause to celebrate as a BBC loved series continues its revival.
The modern reimagining of Bergerac, which first aired in the 1980s starring John Nettles, has found fresh popularity after its return earlier this year - and now an exciting new cast announcement is turning heads ahead of season two.
UKTV has confirmed that Adrian Edmondson (Rain Dogs) and Lesley Sharp (Red Eye) are joining the returning lead Damien Molony for the second series.
Edmondson will play Nigel, a romantic interest for Zoë Wanamaker's Charlie Hungerford, while Sharp is set to appear as Monica. Their addition brings even more star power to a show already praised for its strong ensemble.
Season one's success - it became U&Drama's highest-rated programme ever - helped secure a swift renewal, for which filming is already underway on location in Jersey, with Molony reprising his role as Jim Bergerac.
The production team includes writer Toby Whithouse and collaborators Ashley Sanders, Emilie Robson and Faebian Averies.
Joining Edmondson and Sharp are newcomers Camilla Beeput, Turlough Convery, Jonathan Aris, Charles Dale, Georgina Rich and Denzel Baidoo. Returning regulars include Wanamaker, Robert Gilbert, Chloé Sweetlove, Sasha Behar, Celine Arden and Luke Nunn.
The upcoming series promises another tightly-woven murder mystery across six episodes in which, according to the official synopsis, Jim Bergerac is trying to rebuild his life after past events.

With encouragement from Kim (Chloé Sweetlove), Jim explores dating again and meets Nicola (Camilla Beeput), a visitor to Jersey. Sparks fly but before their relationship can take off, tragedy strikes - a groom is found murdered at his own wedding reception on the island, forcing Jim back into detective mode as suspicion falls on those closest to the victim.
Meanwhile, Charlie Hungerford's storyline adds personal intrigue as she navigates a new romance with Nigel. The blend of character-driven drama and classic whodunit elements looks set to keep both longtime fans and newcomers gripped.
Season one was lauded by viewers as a smart blend of old-school detective work and contemporary drama, and with filming underway and an expanded cast of acclaimed actors, expectations are high for the next chapter when series two lands in 2026.
