Salmon makes for the perfect meal during the warm summer months as it's fresh and light. It can be cooked in a variety of ways and pairs well with seasonal vegetables and salad.
It's common to season salmon with salt and peppper before baking but a more unique recipe suggests using a different ingredient. The common store cupboard ingredient helps give salmon a "sweet and smoky glaze". It only takes a few minutes to prepare and is the perfect recipe for those looking to elevate their salmon.
Joanne Gallagher, a chef from Inspire Taste, recommends using brown sugar to create a rub for salmon fillets. It adds sweetness to the fish and caramelises in the oven.
She said: "This brown sugar baked salmon is such a delicious and easy dinner. Our easy brown sugar rub is perfect for salmon fillets. It caramelizes and turns into a sweet and smoky glaze in the oven."
Joanne added: "My family loves this easy salmon recipe! It only takes a few minutes to prepare, and you'll love the brown sugar glaze on top. This recipe is perfect for when you are busy or overwhelmed!"
To make the rub, she advised mixing one tablespoon of brown sugar with lemon zest, smoked paprika and salt. This can then be applied to the salmon fillets before cooking.
The salmon should ideally be left to marinade for 10 to 15 minutes. It then takes a further 12 to 15 minutes to cook in the oven, depending on its size and thickness.
The salmon can be paired with vegetables, such as green beans, asparagus or tomatoes. Joanne also recommends adding a form of potatoes to complete the dish.
The baked salmon can be stored in a refrigerated airtight container for up to four days. It can also be frozen for up to three months.
The brown sugar salmon recipe has received a number of positive reviews online. It has a total of 18 perfect five star ratings.
