Sarah Ferguson's 'done the right thing' by staying silent on Epstein scandal

Sarah Ferguson has "done the right thing" by staying silent and keeping a low profile since her latest scandal, a brand and culture expert has said. Sarah, Duchess of York, has faced a difficult few weeks after it emerged that she had emailed the late convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein in 2011 after he had been released from prison for child sex offences.

The email saw Sarah, 66, apologise to Epstein for criticising him in a media interview, referring to him as her "supreme friend". A spokesperson for the Duchess has since said that Prince Andrew's ex wife only sent the email out of fear he would be sued for defamation.

While this statement did little to stop the PR crisis that followed, with Sarah being dropped as patron for a number of charities, one brand and culture expert thinks that the Duchess has been doing the right thing by not issuing a statement herself.

Expert Nick Ede also said that anything she does will be scrutinisied, and any statement might "create more questions than answers".

He exclusively told Express.co.uk: "I think that Sarah Ferguson has done the right thing and kept a low profile - anything she says or does will be scrutinised and the best thing for her is to retreat quietly.

"I don't think a statement at this moment in time would be appropriate and it may create more questions than answers."

The Duchess has hardly been seen in public, and is believed to be keeping a low profile at the Royal Lodge home in Windsor that she shares with Prince Andrew, who has also found himself caught up in a number of new scandals.

Although she turned 66 earlier this week, Sarah did not mark the day publicly on social media, with family members also not publicly celebrating her big day.

It is believed she will not be at big upcoming royal events, including Christmas Day celebrations at Sandringham hosted by King Charles and Queen Camilla.

This is set to be the same for Prince Andrew.
