The BBC's Repair Shop made for emotional viewing once again, as a life-saving item brought viewers to tears.
The experts were back for another instalment of the popular show as they attempted to give old or damaged goods a new lease of life. On Wednesday's show (October 16), Jennie Jewitt-Harris from Surrey wanted to restore an old children's book that had a miraculous tale associated with it.
The children's book was gifted to her father, Tony, in 1943 on his eighth birthday, and it still included the inscription inside the cover wishing him a happy birthday. Providing more details on the book's history, Jennie revealed that 12 months after her dad received the book, as World War II raged on, the book ended up saving his life.
Explaining what happened next to expert Chris Shaw, Jennie said: "In 1944, my dad was lying in bed in his home in Chingford, and Hitler dropped a bomb to try and hit the reservoirs and hit the front and the roof of my dad's house.
"And he was found lying with this book on his chest and a big shard of glass sticking out at the back of the book, which pierced well into the book. This is the book that saved my dad's life."
When Chris asked Jennie what she would like done to the book, she replied: "Well, I would love to be able to hand it on to my kids and for their kids to tell the story."
Looking at the book's falling-apart front and back covers, Jennie said she would long for it to be repaired.
After hearing Jennie's remarkable story, fans were already blown away and felt emotional. Heading over to X, viewers shared their thoughts on the touching scenes.
One viewer said: "I'm watching #TheRepairShop. The story behind that book has me welling up. A book that saved a life getting a new lease of life."
Another said, "What a story about the book! " A third viewer said, "The book! It's dusty in here."
After he carefully attached the book back together, restored the spine and pages as well as revamp the front cover, Chris was ready to hand it back over to Jennie.
Returning to the barn, Jennie said: "I've missed the book and I've missed my dad even more. That object signifies his story."
As Chris unveiled the new and improved book, Jennie gasped in disbelief. She said: "It's the same but it's different!"
Taking a closer inspection, Jennie smiled and said: "It looks strong. What magic is this!"
The Repair Shop airs Wednesdays at 8pm on BBC One.
