You may not realise it, but your cat probably tells you they love you a lot more than you think. If you're an animal lover, this will probably come as great news to you, as you may often ponder about how much your pet actually likes you.
It turns out, cats tell you a lot about how they feel based on their actions. According to unhide on TikTok, when it comes to if they love you or not, it could all be in their eyes as they could be making a very adorable gesture to tell you how much they care about you.
In the clip, the presenter said: "Cat hierarcy is super simple. Whoever sits on top is in charge. If your cat nests above your head, they think they are in charge of you.
"If your cat is ever looking at you and slowly closing their eyes while making eye contact, that's actually their way of giving you a kiss and telling you they love you. Don't be shy, blink back.
"Cats actually developed meowing just to communicate with us humans. If they emphasise the 'o' sound, it means something very urgent and are trying to get your attention. If they emphasise the 'e' sound, it's more pleasant and they are trying to greet you."
You may not realise it, but a cat closing their eyes at you is actually a sign of affection and trust. In a nutshell, it's their way of "kissing" you with their eyes.
They do this to try and tell their owners they feel safe and comfortable. You can reciprocate this gesture by slowly blinking back at them, which they may interpret as a sign of love and trust as well.
Meanwhile, some people actually believe cats sitting on them is more likely to be a sign of affection rather than dominance. Experts say it's more likely to show comfort, security and affection.
Cats are territorial, and marking their territory is natural, but this usually involves scent-marking rather than physical domination. They also desire warmth, familiarity and safety, which can be found on their trusted humans.
Meanwhile, they normally meow in a bid to communicate with their humans as opposed to each other. Meowing is a learned behaviour that cats use to get attention, request things or express their needs to humans.
The video has been viewed millions of times since it was shared, and thousands of people commented too. People had all sorts of thoughts about how adorable it is.
One person said: "My cat blinks at me." Another added: "All of this is common knowledge."
A third replied: "I always blink back at my cat - anyone else?" Meanwhile, another also commented: "I knew these, but love it anyway."
Some refused to believe the claims are true, but experts do say it is a cat's way of "kissing you". Whether you see it is a sign of love or trust, you can't deny that it's still super cute either way.
One more chimed in with: "I knew all those facts - it's called Google. These are some of the most basic facts."
