After Sri Lanka Debacle, India Batters Practice Tackling Spin Ahead Of Bangladesh Tests

Send Push

Indian batters, who were found wanting against spin during the ODI series against Bangladesh last month, were seen practising hard against spin ahead of the first Test against Bangladesh that will be played in Chennai. Although they practised on a pace-friendly red soil track on the first two days, the team switched to a black soil surface on the third day. The first Test is expected to be played on the red-soil pitch which often offers good purchase to pacers, but the black-soil composition might assist the spinners, which is why India have taken extra care to practice spin. The unusual weather pattern in Chennai can affect the nature of the track as the game goes on. While the first four days are expected to be cloudy, rain is predicted for Day 5. In Sri Lanka, the likes of Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant and even ace batter Virat Kohli couldn't tackle the intense spin. According to a report in PTI, some of the Indian batters were rigorously practising against spin, knowing that quality tweakers Shakib al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz exist in Bangladesh's ranks.Shakib and Miraz troubled Pakistan's batters in Rawalpindi and it won't be surprising if they do the same against the Indians as well. On Tuesday, the Indian batters had an extended session since Wednesday is expected to be an optional one and there are high chances that not many of the players will turn up a day ahead of the game. Bangladesh are coming off a massive 2-0 series win over Pakistan in their backyard, which will keep the Indian management on their toes and against taking the opponents lightly.Notably, during their last tour of Bangladesh, India were on the verge of losing a Test before Shreyas Iyer and Ravichandran Ashwin took charge and pulled India through.
