New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has announced that the puzzle parking facility near the Punjabi Bagh crematorium is nearing completion and is expected to open by early July. An official from MCD said that most of the work has been completed, with the final commissioning processes underway. The new parking facility is designed to accommodate 225 vehicles.

In addition to the puzzle parking, MCD has proposed an automated shuttle parking on Club Road near Madipur. This facility will include a basement, a ground floor, and eight additional floors, with construction scheduled to be completed within two years.

The shuttle system allows both horizontal and vertical movement of platforms carrying vehicles, offering a faster and more cost-effective solution. The parking facility at the local community centre near Madipur will cover 2,300 square metres and is planned to hold 275 vehicles. A tender for the project has been issued, with completion targeted for mid-2026, as per a report by Hindustan Times.

MCD aims to develop this facility on a public-private partnership (PPP) model, giving a private developer a 30-year concession, including two years of construction. The developer can generate revenue from the commercial components integrated into the parking structure.

The MCD is also working on three conventional multilevel parking projects at Rani Bagh, Shastri Park, and Rajendra Nagar, likely to be implemented on a PPP basis. The civic body plans to hire a consultant to prepare a detailed project report and tender documents. In a March meeting, the MCD approved a revised proposal for three parking lots with capacity for 935 vehicles at Shastri Park, 700 at Rajendra Nagar, and 700 at Rani Bagh.

The estimated costs for these projects are Rs 118.8 crore for Rani Bagh, Rs 96.5 crore for Rajendra Nagar, and Rs 96.8 crore for Shastri Park. These parking lots are expected to address parking issues in busy areas of Delhi and reduce congestion caused by illegal parking.
