Ryan Wesley Routh has been identified as the suspect in an alleged assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida. Trump was playing golf on Sunday afternoon when Secret Service agents spotted the suspect aiming an AK-47-style rifle through the bushes. The agents opened fire, prompting Routh to flee. Martin County Sheriff William D. Snyder confirmed that Routh was apprehended on Interstate 95 and taken into custody. At a press conference, Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said the AK-47, equipped with a scope, along with two backpacks and a GoPro, were recovered from the sceneReleasing photos of the backpacks and weapon, Ric Bradshaw said, "There's also a GoPro on the fence there, where he was intent on filming what was going on."The discovery of the GoPro sparked speculation on social media that Routh was planning to livestream the assassination attempt."This dude wanted to live stream shooting Trump just for the noriety... That stream will be out somewhere...sometime..I'm sure," one person wrote on X.Another wrote, "The GoPro was the grossest part of this. What was he going to do? Live stream it? What a sicko."A third person wrote, "Considering you can live stream with a GoPro this seems like another instance of someone wanting to broadcast an assassination live! People need to wake up."

Trump issued a statement following the incident, assuring supporters that he was "safe and well.""There were gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumors start spiraling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND WELL!" he said in a fundraising email. "Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER! I will always love you for supporting me."
