COIMBATORE: The Narcotics Intelligence Bureau -CID police seized four kg of ganja from an express train at the Coimbatore Junction Railway Station on Monday.
A team comprising NIB-CID deputy superintendent of police Jayaraj, inspector Kumaresh, sub-inspector Gomathi and others conducted searches at the railway station. Luggage belonging to passengers were checked. A sniffer dog named Tiger was pressed into service.
The team conducted searches in Dhanbad Express and Sabari Express trains. The officers found four kg of ganja in Dhanbad Express train. No one was arrested in connection with this seizure.
NIB-CID officers said they had seized 300 kg of ganja from different trains in the last eight months and arrested 20 people for smuggling the contraband.
They planned to conduct similar searches at the Coimbatore Junction Railway Station and trains in future.
