Coimbatore: A youth was caught trespassing into the Indian Air Force (IAF) Station at Sulur here on Wednesday evening. IAF personnel handed him over to the Sulur police, who registered a case against him. Preliminary inquiry revealed that the youth was mentally challenged.
A police officer said the person in question, aged around 25 to 29 years old, was initially roaming around the IAF Station compound wall near Kadampadi. "He suddenly jumped over the compound wall, which was of normal height, around 5.30pm. IAF personnel rushed to the area and caught him. When questioned, he identified himself as Sanjit Ekka but didn't reveal any other details about himself. They later handed him over to us with a written complaint."
Based on the complaint, police registered a case against the youth under Section 329(3) (criminal trespass) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. "He was wearing only shorts. He did not possess any valid identification proof. He looked like mentally unstable and didn't seem like in a condition to reveal his native address," the officer said.
On Thursday evening, police took him to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH). "If the youth is mentally challenged, a certificate will be obtained from the experts at the CMCH, following which he will be admitted to a hospital at Kilpauk in Chennai. If doctors give a certificate stating he is a normal person, he will be produced before a judicial magistrate and remanded in judicial custody," the officer said.
