Ranchi: With board exam results declared for the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE), several schools in the city have begun their final round of admissions, selecting students strictly based on academic merit and declared cut-off marks. With availability of seats now limited, competition has intensified among the applicants.

Ravi Shekhar, the academic coordinator at Oxford Public School, said, "Only students meeting the prescribed cut-offs are being considered. We received a high volume of applications during the provisional phase, and now, based on merit and document verification, we are filling the remaining seats."

Many schools are witnessing a surge in inquiries. The final round is being closely watched, particularly for high-demand streams such as science and commerce. Several schools, including Oxford Public School, Sarala Birla Public School, Cambrian Public School, and Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir are offering scholarships. The admission windows in these schools will remain open all through the month of May.

Vikas Vidyalaya, Firayalal Public School, and Kairali School will continue admissions until seats are filled, even though the availability is limited. The process began in April and witnessed a surge in demand after results were announced. In some schools, admissions closed as seat confirmations were underway. Admissions at schools such as Jawahar Vidya Mandir Shyamali have already concluded.

Several schools are also offering merit-based scholarships this year. The Principal of Cambrian Public School, Premlata Kumari, said, "We are in the final leg of admissions, and competition is quite intense. While academic scores remain our primary criteria, we are also conducting counselling sessions to understand the student's aptitude and communication skills."

P S Kalra, principal of Vikas Vidyalaya, said, "Seats are nearly full, but we still have limited availability in select classes. Parents are required to ensure timely submission of documents and stay updated. We believe in nurturing talent irrespective of financial background. It not only rewards their hard work but also motivates others to aim higher."

The Principal of Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir, Lalan Kumar Singh, said, "To recognise the efforts of high achievers, we are offering scholarships to meritorious students. It's our way of encouraging consistent academic performance."

Shushma Rani, who is seeking admission for her daughter Sona in the science stream, said, "Seats are limited, and demand is high, especially in higher classes. A few seats are still open in select streams, but they are filling fast. Currently, admissions are being conducted based on cut-off marks, so we can only opt for schools where the cut-off aligns with our scores."
