CGCRI, IIT-BHU sign MoU to boost research in ceramics, allied tech

Varanasi: The Kolkata-based CSIR-Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute (CGCRI) has tied up with Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi to foster joint research in glass-ceramics and allied technology.

An MoU was signed on Saturday by Prof Bikramjit Basu, director, CSIR–CGCRI, and Prof Amit Patra, Director, IIT (BHU), in the presence of senior faculty and dignitaries from both institutions.

The primary aim of this collaboration is to foster joint research initiatives, promote the exchange of scientific ideas, and enhance high-quality research capabilities in areas critical to national development. According to Prof Ashutosh Kumar Dubey, HoD of ceramic engineering at IIT (BHU), the key research domains include glass and glass-ceramics, electrical and electronic ceramics, structural ceramics and composites, water resource management, refractories and high-temperature ceramics, sensor development, membrane and separation technologies, energy materials and devices, biomaterials and devices, functional ceramics and devices, and thin-film technology and allied materials. The MoU also outlines plans for the development and execution of collaborative research projects and professional development programmes, the mutual sharing of academic publications, research analyses and reports and opportunities for IIT (BHU) students to engage in BTech summer internships, MTech and PhD research projects, and dissertations under the guidance of CGCRI experts.

The signing ceremony was attended by Prof NK Mukhopadhyay, Prof SK Mahto, Prof Pradip Kumar Roy, Prof Chandan Upadhyah, Prof Gour Gopal Roy (IIT KGP), Prof Ashish Garg (IIT Kanpur), and other members of the academic and research community.
